The electric Renault Kwid has broken covers at the Paris Motor Show 2018 as the Renault K-ZE concept car and is the smallest electric car offering from Renault India. The SUV inspired small car is based on the Renault Kwid's CMF-A platform that houses its base in India. However, concept electric Kwid or the K-ZE looks very futuristic and has a strong India connect.
The electric version of Renault Kwid will first be launched in China. This new electric car from Renault is based on the CMF-A vehicle architecture that has been developed in India and underpins cars like the Kwid, Datsun Go and Go+. The electric version of the Kwid has also been engineered at the company's R&D facility in Chennai with Chinese technicians working on its powertrain solutions. Electric Renault Kwid will go on sale in China by 2020 and expect India launch by 2022 only once Indian government gives more clarity on EVs and the FAME scheme.
Renault has already announced that it will launch an electric car in India but at the moment is bullish on the Chinese market. China has been far ahead in the EV game and with Indian government silent on EV policy, the global carmaker has decided not to launch the car in India for the time being.

While India awaits for the electric Renault Kwid, We will see Renault India launching the new facelift on the Kwid small car in 2019. The Kwid has been a successful car for the company and is all set to get some major exterior and interior upgrades next year.
Electric Renault Kwid will be a game changer in the segment once launched in India. We will also see the electric version of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R being rolled out in 2020 and the electric Hyundai Kona SUV being launched in India. Currently, Mahindra and Tata Motors are the only companies making electric cars in India.
